Field Mapping

It is essential to map own fields and data about them in order to process information and manage the farm efficiently, as well as provide valuable decision support.

One of the key points of precision agriculture is compensating the variability of space-time, which characterizes agricultural environments, through the modulation of interventions to optimize the results of the production process from an economic and environmental point of view.

Mapping and recording information related to farms is very important in order to identify and customize each decision both in time and space.

GIS systems

Agricolus, thanks to the use of GIS (Geographical Information System) technologies, allows users to visualize and analyze information distributed in space, manage their data in a single platform and plan several operations.

The GIS or Geographical Information System is a tool used to process information derived from geographic data that allows users to collect, register, display, share and “portray” information.

“…the adjective “geographic” indicates that the information entered always has a spatial reference, a georeferencing; “informative” means that a series of information can be associated with the data. The noun “System” indicates an integration between the software user and the hardware, in order to obtain information that supports the analysis, data management and the implementation of strategies. A system includes digital images that can be processed, a database, geostatistical software and tables with associated functions. Without these elements the system would be very limited in its analysis capabilities” – Meijerink, A.M.J. et al., (1994)

Farms and technology

Farms today use several innovative tools to increase yield and quality of the production. These technologies register and produce a huge amount of data that, after a correct interpretation and analysis, allow to:

  • optimize the work in the fields.
  • manage effectively resources and inputs.
  • reduce waste.

This is the reason why having geolocated and historical data of the farm is essential to face future challenges.
